No sex in this city.

I may be committing some kind of sacrilege by saying what I'm about to say, but I'll say it anyway! I am not a fan of Sex and The City.
(mg, a fashion blogger who is NOT a fan, is this even possible?) 

Let me explain... Firstly, I'm not a big TV person, but I've probably seen a majority of the episodes. I drool over all the clothing and consider Carrie to be one of the biggest trendsetters we've seen over the last decade. But at the same time I just find her so ANNOYING and WHINY. And that is reason enough for me not to watch it! 

Sex And The City 2 premiered in New York tonight and the ladies looked vibrant.

Kim Cattrall in a Naeem Khan gown, Kristin Davis, pretty in pink in Jean Desses for Decades, Cynthia Nixon in Carolina Herrera and Sarah Jessica Parker in GORGEOUS Valentino.

The first SATC movie was never shown in the UAE and up until now, word in the local presses is that SATC2 won't be shown here either, despite being based in the nation's capital Abu Dhabi! Strange enough, but no real surprise considering that when they wanted to film (apparently Dubai was first pick, and Abu Dhabi second) the local authorities didn't allow them access. The film crew set off across the desert to Morocco to shoot instead. 

For now, let me just admire the fashion thanks to these speak peak shots courtesy of E! Online.

Hopefully they've toned down a bit and the movie is in good taste, by being culturally considerate. At the end of the day, Abu Dhabi is an Islamic state and even if it wasn't filmed there, the name of the city is all over the film.
Personally, I think the UAE should be welcoming the hype that SATC2 will bring to the country (that's depending on how it's depicted though). Women all over the world adore it, who knows how many will decide to 'book a trip to Abu Dhabi' because they've seen it in the film. But I do also see the other side of the story and know how much the the SATC franchise represents a lot of things that are against the Islamic religion.  This will be an interesting one to watch. I guess I'll just have to wait until the DVD lady comes knocking on my door to get my hands on a copy.

Edit: After watching SATC2 - UH! Worst movie ever! I don't blame UAE government for refusing to let them film here!

A Single Man.

I'd like to see this film.

I'm sure there's definitely an emphasis on 1960s clothing and from what I've seen in the trailer, it looks great.
But what else could you expect from Tom Ford?

Miroir Noir.

Last week, I watched Miroir Noir, a film following the band Arcade Fire as they created and toured for their album Neon Bible.
Quite an amazing docu/film actually. Filmed by Vincent Moon and directed by Vincent Morriset - resulting in an elusive behind-the-scenes peak at an inspirational and intense band.

Many of the scenes were beautiful, accompanied by even more beautiful and inspiring music. The first time I listened to Neon Bible back in 2007 I remember the shivers down my spine... from the lyrics, Win Butler's vocals, the composition. Everything was perfect. The church organs at the start of Intervention gave me chills and even when I listen to My Body Is a Cage til now, I feel like I'm peering directly into his soul.

Mahmovies! was the organisation that brought the film to Dubai. They held film showings at the Jamjar for the first few months of this year. As Miroir Noir was the final showing for this season, they let us keep the beanbags we all comfortably settled in.

I'm sure those driving past thought it was pretty odd... watching groups of people leaving an industrial warehouse with beanbags on their backs.. ;)

Bright Star.

I first read about the film, Bright Star, on Erika Michel's blog Chicas Vintage, but never thought I'd be able to watch it because I doubted very much that'd it'd be released here. Luckily, it was on the playlist on my flight back from London!

It's the love story between John Keats and Fanny Brawne. About loyalty, passion, trust, patience.
It truly is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.

It's actually up for an Oscar nomination for Best Costume and rightly so!

There is something about Ben Whishaw's face that makes me fall in love with any character he plays

(yes, even the maniac murderer in Perfume).

There was one scene in particular, that just took my breath away.
Fanny was sitting up on her bed, just staring out the window as the curtains blew toward her.

If you haven't seen it yet, I urge you to go watch it. It's simply beautiful.

I'm trying to find a copy of it on DVD now, it'll be one of those movies I could just watch over and over.

Look how gorgeous Dakota Fanning is in the February issue of Vogue Italia. Those eyebrows are the sex. I love the edgy, girly look they've given her - very high fashion. I can't really believe she's only 16 still. She looks sweet and sexy, but not too sultry or Lolita-esque. 

The pictorial coincides with the release of her new movie The Runaways, also starring Kirsten Stewart and honestly, I can't wait to see their portrayal of THE MOST KICKASS GIRL BAND EVA...!
